next generation Daughter Dad Dedication Twenty one year old Lauren Clark represents the fourth generation of PMPs in a family that knows those who slay pests together stay together Will Nepper Managing Editor F or Lauren Clark pest management is more than the family business it is family Representing the fourth generation of Clarks in the biz Lauren 21 has been following somewhat literally in the footsteps of her father Donald Clark founder of Alleycat Exterminating Brooklyn N Y since age 13 I first started working in the field on weekends in a school for children with Down syndrome in Brooklyn Lauren Clark said I was cleaning up mouse droppings with a little hand held vacuum putting down and picking up glue boards and mapping out where the snap traps bait stations and glue boards would be placed Since then Lauren Clark has been working on the weekends and school breaks Whenever the phone rings and shes free Lauren Clark conducts bed bug inspections and rodent proofing Though I do occasionally have to pick up the dreaded water bug filled glue board too As far as budding careers go Lauren Clarks seems to be right on track the same track travelled by the three generations preceding her Lauren Clark explains that Alleycats legacy extends back as far as Donald Clarks great grandfather on his mothers side My great great grandfather was an exterminator in Ireland around World War II but were not positive if he worked alone or for another company because all he left behind were a few pest control handbooks and a little book with notes about accounts and field drawings scribbled in it Lauren Clark explains From there it was Donald Clarks uncle who took the first stateside Continued on page 70 mypmp net Pest Management Professional April 2012 69
