ADVERTORIAL Relief From Termites Customers turn to pest management professionals to relieve them of pest problems MD Weaver turns to Exterra There might have been a time when customers didnt care about how a pest management company got rid of their pests as long as the pests were gone but those days are dwindling Customers might use the term green or sustainable or maybe theyre a bit more sophisticated and are aware of LEED certification or integrated pest management IPM Either way its a growing segment of the pest management industry and its a field that Mark Weaver owner of MD Weaver The Pest Reliever of Natick Mass has embraced The greater Boston area has bought into the green movement Weaver says And when they need to deal with termites Weaver has a solution that appeases customer concerns We work in LEED buildings and in schools Weaver says This product dovetails perfectly with the goals of integrated pest management Its always been our concept Green pest control is good IPM In addition to being a board certified entomologist Weaver is a LEED Green Associate which makes him quite comfortable in dealing with customers demanding green pest solutions Weaver emphasizes his integrated pest management IPM approach Exterra falls naturally into IPM because it includes monitoring and action once the termites are found Weaver says According to Exterras manufacturer Ensystex the products name is derived from a combination of three words exterminate termite and terra terra is Latin for earth That means the meaning is literally exterminates termites in the earth MD Weaver techs follow a simple process to use Exterra The first step is to install stations in the ground at regular intervals around the customers structure Next the stations are inspected at periodic intervals for termite activity If termites are found in a station the station is baited Baited stations are inspected on a regular basis and re baited as needed When termite feeding in a station ceases for a length of time any remaining bait is removed at which point the process begins again This is necessary in case the colony was not completely eliminated or other nearby termite colonies invade the area vacated by the previous colony The use of baiting reduces the need for drilling into concrete and no need to worry about buried wires and pipes Weaver says Weaver started using Exterra in 1999 just three years after he started the company One of the advantages of Exterra is that a given project is based on the size of the property not how much bait is used We found it was more accessible to us Weaver says I appreciate the fact that they give you a set budget for a site regardless of how much bait is used We find that very attractive for the Exterra line Baits can be very expensive for other products Weaver says Stations dont require more than checking them three times a year Exterra accounts for about 80 percent of our total termite control work The rest of the termite work comes from customers who prefer to treat only parts of their structures Exterra is most effective as whole building treatment Weaver says In addition to the products efficacy Weaver likes working directly with the manufacturer Weve never had a problem getting product from them Weaver says Theyre very accessible there Im really an Exterra fan I rely a lot on the baiting 1 888 398 3772 www ensystex com
