Pest Management Professional, December 2017
I n September Kevin Citarella moved his family into a beautiful home in Spring Hill Fla west of Orlando Unfortunately he encountered a problem almost immediately the presence of American cockroaches Periplaneta americana in his garage The pests werent a total shock Citarella owner of Citarella Termite Pest Management in Spring Hill knows that unwanted critters are relatively common all year in Florida due largely to the states heat and dampness Regardless Citarella wasnt going to ignore the invaders in his garage Citarella remembered he had recently received a sample bottle of a new product by BASF called Fendona CS controlled release insecticide He grabbed the sample out of his truck mixed 1 oz to 1 gal of water and sprayed Fendona CS inside his garage Because the garage was still packed with moving boxes a thorough treatment was impossible Citarellas expectations were low The next morning though Citarellas expectations skyrocketed I got up to feed the dogs and there were at least a dozen dead roaches on the garage floor Citarella recalls I was totally amazed Ive been in this business almost 40 years and I cannot remember a product that worked that quickly and thoroughly Since then Citarella has used Fendona CS insecticide for two customers who complained about American and Australian P australasiae cockroaches entering their homes He sprayed the insecticide around the perimeters of their yards The product stopped the roaches from getting into the houses Citarella says Ive received no callbacks from either customer so far Fendona CS insecticide doesnt only manage cockroaches The product is labeled for more than 60 pests including tough to manage spiders scorpions and mosquitoes everyday perimeter pests like ants and beetles and occasional invaders like earwigs It works on several surface types porous and non porous and turf and ornamental areas According to BASFs website Fendona CS insecticide is new to the U S market Its active ingredient alpha cypermethrin is protected in an advanced encapsulated formula which protects the active ingredient from the environment and allows the active ingredient to diffuse quickly once contacting the insect For pest management professionals like Citarella that means fast results with fewer applications and lower costs This lasts a long time says Citarella whose company focuses on quarterly treatments According to a study done by Cardoza Research Consulting an independent Fresno firm that performs tests for makers and distributors of pest management products Fendona CS insecticide residue was still killing spiders 90 days after an original application The product was effective in eliminating brown recluse spiders cellar spiders and black widow spiders I love this stuff Citarella says Im looking forward to using it on a more regular basis Im still finding dead roaches in my garage eight weeks later ADVERTORIAL Fendona CS acts fasts and lasts long for Citarella Termite Pest Management
