after hours Speed The Need for When he isnt controlling critters Mark Dotson of A All Animal Control has the pedal to the metal Will Nepper Managing Editor Mark Dotson tearing up the track at more than 200 mph W hen he isnt running a successful animal control company nuisance wildlife control officer NWCO Mark Dotson chief executive officer for A All Animal Control is breaking records on the racetrack Never one to do things halfway Dodson isnt content to fly around the track on his 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa for fun though fun certainly figures into the equation No Dotson isnt fulfilled until hes beat the best And sometimes the best is his personal record Dotson caught the racing bug at 42 years old a surprise to anyone whos watched him race Mid life crisis right he says laughing In the beginning of his time on the track drag racing was the outlet of choice for this nitro fueled NWCO But when the drag race organization he was involved with went belly up in 2009 Dotson transferred his ambitions to speed biking and never looked back Early this summer Dotson set out to be The Fastest NWCO on the Planet breaking the standing eight year bike speed record of 217 mph After more than a month of building a stronger motor that could handle the extra nitrous power the 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa would need to accomplish this feat A All Animal Control Racing was set to make history Saturday morning came and the weather was not exactly ideal for a land speed racing run High crosswinds and headwinds were the flavor of the day in Wilmington Ohio but that was still within my personal limits for a run Dotson notes After checking and adjusting tire pressures airing up the swing arm and making a few other last minute setting adjustments Dotson pulled the bike into the lane and waited for his time run The Wilmington Mile is a closed runway at Wilmington Air Park a measured mile with a half mile shut down area The bike would need every inch of it to get to speed before the speed traps flagged out Dotson adds After the East Coast Timing Associations safety crew performed the last safety checks Dotson was cleared for launch The launch was aggressive and rough Dotson recalls The rear wheel spun shortly down track which caused the rev limiter to be pegged A quick button shift and the bike rolled into second gear After the throttle reached 90 percent the nitrous punched in and the bike quickly picked up power The rev limiter engaged again in third Another shift and the next two gears were hit right on target Around 175 mph the wind became intense he adds I had to adjust tucking every part of my body and helmet behind the small fairing In land speed racing this is called crawling under the paint As the bike passed the three quarters mile markers the vibration of the track caused the nitrous gauge to explode and the 5 pound bottle to dump all of the nitrous Despite this setback Dotson still broke the record reaching 2186 mph Dotson holds three land speed records and continues to set and break records at the East Coast Timing Associations Wilmington Mile His next challenge We hope to see the bike in the 220 miles per hour range soon and to hold that record for as long as possible Dotson says Go speed racer go pmp You can reach Nepper at wnepper@ northcoastmedia net or 216 706 3775 112 September 2012 Pest Management Professional www mypmp net
