giving back A Philosophy of Philanthropy Bayer and Global Prairie share a passion for good causes community and caring Will Nepper Managing Editor T heres nothing particularly uncommon about a corporate brand working closely with its marketing department But Environmental Science ES a division of Bayer CropScience and its integrated marketing communications agency Global Prairie share a common goal that goes well beyond business success Struck in November 2011 this partnership was much more than a good business choice for both organizations it provided an opportunity for ES to attach itself to a company that views corporate social responsibility as we do notes Chris Pienaar ES Director of Business Operations Being jointly committed to the same causes and vision helps set a common goal and puts everyone in a more intimate working relationship where we can realize our greatest successes Piennar adds ES was drawn to Global Prairie for reasons beyond its proven marketing namely the agencys core philosophy of philanthropy To date Global Prairies work represents a wide range of projects and campaigns Its Global Prairie Charitable Foundation is a fund established to ensure the company can invest in community even when the economy or marketplace is less than cooperative From the day we opened our doors we were resolute that 10 percent of our profits each year would be given to our foundation says Anne D St Peter founder of Global Prairie Because we purposefully want to attract people to our team who are Global Prairies Kansas City Mo ofce interested in philanthropy and our companys higher purpose every new team member receives his or her own charitable foundation on the first day and Global Prairie puts philanthropic dollars into our folks funds four times per year so they personally participate in our companys giving but to causes they are passionate about Bayer for its part is a business that serves industries and professionals who have a deep impact on the quality of life and public health For example ES has partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention donating time and products to help control ticks during the Rocky Mountain spotted fever outbreak The manufacturer also has been involved with Passage Home a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that helps provide affordable housing and science summer camps teaching children the importance of sustainability and technology Additionally in 2010 Bayer representatives traveled with a National Pest Management Association NPMA delegation to earthquake shattered Chris Pienaar director of business operations Bayer Environmental Science Anne D St Peter founder Global Prairie Continued on page 114 www mypmp net Pest Management Professional September 2012 113
